Genesis unveils large SUV concept car Neolun
Sneak peek at the Genesis GV90

Genesis can be said to be the only premium brand in South Korea. They unveiled the brand’s first full-size SUV concept car at Genesis House New York (Genesis’s first global brand culture space). The name of the unveiled concept car is Neolun. Although there has been no official announcement from the brand yet, many speculate that this concept car is the GV90 scheduled to be launched.

Neolun is inspired by the moon-shaped design that symbolizes South Korea. This concept car, along with a new attempt by the Genesis brand, features a two-line DRL and details that continue the design look of the existing Genesis. Because it is a concept car, no information other than the design has been released. This time, let’s take a look at the information released so far regarding Genesis Neolun.

First Korean-made vehicle to use coach doors

Neolun was unveiled at Genesis House in New York. Its elements resembled those of the Mercedes-Benz Maybach GLS and Rolls-Royce models. In particular, the B-pillar has wholly disappeared, and coach doors that open and close on both sides are the first to be applied to all Hyundai Motor Group models.

The rotatable seat is designed to face the second-row passengers by rotating the first-row seat 180 degrees. This element is also not found in existing South Korean models. In the case of Kia’s EV9, the second row of seats can face the third row, but the Genesis Neolun is the first model to use the rotation of the first row of seats. In the interior, a two-tone combination of midnight black and majestic blue colors was created, further enhancing the sense of luxury.

Offering traditional Korean floor heating as an option
Expectations for performance in the South Korean market

Neolun is also equipped with several future-oriented specifications. The most representative specification is Ondol heating, a traditional South Korean floor heating system. Genesis announced that ondol heating is an option in Neolun. The company shared, “It will be used to control the temperature of the dashboard, door trim, and body floor, enabling efficient energy consumption even in cold weather.”

Neolun has great significance in the South Korean electric vehicle market. If this concept car is mass-produced as the Genesis GV90, one option will be added to the South Korean sizeable electric SUV lineup, which currently only has the EV9. This vehicle is expected to be the best option for consumers who want a premium large electric SUV in line with the recently expanding demand for SUVs.

Mass-produced model to be unveiled in 2026

However, considering that the Genesis brand is a premium brand and that the vehicle is released only as an electric vehicle, the price is expected to be very high. There is currently no exact information released about the price, but it is predicted that it will be more expensive than the Kia EV9, which was previously considered very expensive. Of course, Neolun is a vehicle under the Genesis brand, so, naturally, it is costly.

As mentioned earlier, Neolun will be the basis for the mass-produced model GV90, which is expected to be officially unveiled in early 2026. Genesis plans to complete its brand’s SUV lineup with the GV90. Will this vehicle be able to raise the pride of South Korea’s premium vehicle in competition with several premium imported brands?
