Attracting Consumers with High Efficiency

Chevrolet’s Chinese subsidiary has unveiled the new Equinox Plus. As a plug-in hybrid model of the fourth-generation Equinox, it attracts consumer attention with a driving range of over 1,000km (approximately 621 miles) according to Chinese CLTC standards when the battery and fuel are fully charged.

General Motors’s next-generation plug-in hybrid system developed the new Chevrolet Equinox Plus. It uses a P1+P3 dual motor in series and parallel. The dual electric motor is based on a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline turbo engine combined with a continuously variable transmission.

The engine delivers a maximum torque of 173 horsepower and 25.5kgf.m (approximately 184 ft-lbs), and the electric motor is expected to produce an additional 190 horsepower, promising high power performance. The new Equinox Plus can drive 155km (approximately 96 miles) in electric mode only and has been certified with a combined fuel economy of 95km per liter (approximately 223 mpg) according to Chinese CLTC standards. When the battery and fuel are fully charged, it can drive over 1,000km (approximately 621 miles).

Following the exterior reveal, the Equinox Plus’s interior design has also been unveiled. The revealed interior features blue trim, in keeping with the plug-in hybrid’s eco-friendly image. The blue color was also applied throughout the curved dashboard.

The door trim and seats were accentuated with two-tone black and blue. The dashboard features an 11-inch digital cluster and an 11.3-inch entertainment display, arranged side by side in a dual-screen configuration. Below that, essential features like vents and climate controls are arranged horizontally.

A circular turbine vent is located on the side of the dashboard. The vent rim is also accented with blue color. The surround ambient lamp adds a subtle illumination to the interior, emphasizing luxury. The exterior features Equinox Plus-exclusive 17-inch or 20-inch wheels, and angular fender cladding gives a distinctly different feel from the current Equinox.

Increased height and width compared to the previous model
Is it possible to release it in Korea?

The size of the new Equinox Plus is 4,653mm (approximately 183 inches) in length, 1,902mm (approximately 75 inches) in width, 1,714mm (approximately 67 inches) in height, and a wheelbase of 2,730mm (approximately 107 inches), which is an increase in height and width compared to the current model. Chevrolet has been focusing on electric vehicles but seems to be adjusting its strategy with the new Equinox.

While maintaining its electrification strategy with the Equinox EV, it’s responding to the demand for hybrids with the PHEV model, the Equinox Plus. It will be interesting to see the effects of Chevrolet’s strategy. The new Equinox will be produced in May at Mexico’s General Motors factory. The new Equinox will be launched in Korea in the first half of 2025. The PHEV model, the Equinox Plus, is expected to be sold in some Asian countries, but there is no news of its release in Korea yet.
