Dubai’s Latest Patrol Car is a Tesla Cybertruck: A Glimpse into the Future of Policing?

Professional Tesla tuning company Unplugged Performance recently became controversial when they revealed a tuned Cybertruck for police use. The patrol vehicle is equipped with police lights on the roof and sides and is painted with symbolic colors of Dubai police. When the new patrol vehicle was unveiled, it caught massive attention. However, the Dubai police revealed that the vehicle will be used for tourist purposes rather than police duties.

The Cybertruck patrol car is adorned with a police badge and painted in the symbolic colors of white and green. Furthermore, a light bar is mounted on the roof, and light bars are attached to the front bumper and fender flares. While the Dubai police have been silent about the Cybertruck patrol car, they have stated that the vehicle serves marketing purposes.

Dubai police also plans to add the Cybertruck patrol cars to their Luxury Patrol Team for Tourist Police. The Cybertruck patrol cars will officially be unveiled at the Dubai Mall’s ice rink. Visitors can take pictures with the vehicle during the event as part of Dubai’s promotional efforts.

The Dubai Police General Command posted a picture of the Tesla Cybertruck patrol car on X, to which Elon Musk responded with “Cool” with a sunglasses emoji. The official Cybertruck account also responded, “It looks amazing; thank you for your trust.” Last year, Arabia Taxi Dubai announced its plans to use over 260 Model 3s as taxi vehicles.

Elon Musk also gave a speech at the World Government Summit held in Dubai last year, following his first attendance in 2017. Considering Tesla and the United Arab Emirates’ ongoing collaboration, there’s speculation of a potential new vehicle.

The modified Teslas are expected to be used in police stations nationwide this year. The Cybertruck patrol vehicle appeared after Unplugged Performance revealed its model. Over the past few years, police stations have been testing electric patrol cars to save on maintenance costs.

In February, Tesla announced that using its electric vehicles could save around $4,500 in equipment costs. For instance, a police station in Bargersville, Indiana, reported last month that it saved about $80,000 a year in fuel costs alone by using 13 Tesla EVs. When electric vehicles are used as patrol cars, they can significantly reduce maintenance costs, allowing budget flexibility.
