Ford to Launch Revolutionary 2025 Expedition by Year’s End – What to Expect

The Ford Expedition, a full-size SUV with a three-row configuration, has been manufactured by the U.S. automaker Ford since 1996. It shares its platform with the Lincoln Navigator and the F-150 pickup truck. Ford has been rigorously testing the new Expedition for over a year, generating excitement within the industry about the potential unveiling of the 2025 model by the end of this year.

Considering Ford’s announcement to add a hybrid option to all its models over the next decade, a new hybrid powertrain is expected to be added to the 2025 Expedition. If the 2025 model is released before the end of this year, it will likely go on sale early next year.

Completely New Design
Grille and Front Fascia

The recently spotted prototype of the Ford Expedition showcased a completely redesigned grille and front fascia. The neat exterior differs from the current model’s large rectangular design. The large C-bracket lights have been replaced with smaller ones. Also, the tapered LED lights formed a C-shape sloping down towards the bottom of the grille, similar to the new F-150. The details of the lower part were not visible due to the camouflage, but it was confirmed that the ventilation holes in the corners have significantly reduced in size.

The chrome trim on the rear window was slightly raised, adding a touch of uniqueness to the Expedition’s flat beltline. The rear side of the 2025 model is expected to be equipped with updated graphics and a bumper-equipped new taillight, and it’s highly likely to feature a new split-opening liftgate. Other changes include a new wheel design that appears to be about 24 inches, unique trim options, and a few new exterior colors.

Large display featured in the new Nautilus to be installed

The interior of the 2025 Ford is also expected to undergo significant changes, with a high likelihood of featuring a dash-spanning screen similar to what Lincoln introduced in the 2024 Nautilus. The screen of Lincoln’s large display is about 48 inches, and the Expedition is expected to adopt a similar 48-inch screen, signaling a substantial digital transformation. A smaller touchscreen display, about 13.0 inches, is expected to be placed in front of the large screen, with vertical vents confirmed on the side. These large and smaller touchscreen displays will act as the interface for installing the new digital software in the 2025 Expedition.

The 2025 Expedition is speculated to feature a series of buttons, including a rotary shifter dial next to the media volume knob. The Expedition will be able to access the Google Play Store, smartphone mirroring, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto through the new software. What kind of powertrain options the current Expedition will offer is still unknown. The current Expedition offers three powertrains, with the base model equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine capable of delivering 375 horsepower and 65kgf.m of torque.

In addition, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine Platinum series is also available, which can produce 400 horsepower and 66kgf.m of torque and 440 horsepower and 70kgf.m of torque, depending on the specifications. Meanwhile, Ford will likely expand its lineup by adding a hybrid powertrain called the Blue Oval to the 2025 Expedition. Amid a slowdown in electric vehicle sales earlier this year, Ford has announced plans to offer hybrid versions of all models over the next decade. Ford is already offering a hybrid F-150 that uses the same 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine as the Expedition, so the same hybrid powertrain used in the F-150 will likely be used.

The F-150 pickup truck, paired with a 35.0kWh electric motor, produces 430 horsepower and 78kgf.m of torque and has been evaluated to replace the top-spec gasoline engine while improving overall fuel efficiency. Ford has not disclosed the price of the 2025 Expedition, but it is likely to start around $50,000. Also, since the prototype of the 2025 Expedition had a sticker identifying it as a 2025 model, Ford is expected to officially unveil the Expedition vehicle before the end of this year.
