Transfermarkt, a football statistics medium
Reports on the global ranking of the most valuable leagues
The English Premier League (EPL) has claimed the top spot as the most valuable football league in the world.
On June 27th (local time), football statistics medium Transfermarkt revealed the top 3 most valuable football leagues worldwide.
The EPL secured the first position as the most valuable football league globally, with a total value of 10.48 billion euros.
The Spanish football league, La Liga, was ranked second with a total value of 4.67 billion euros.
Italian Serie A took the third position with a value of 4.61 billion euros.
The EPL is the most popular league among football leagues. It is beloved by football fans worldwide due to factors such as rapid expansion into the Asian market, effective marketing strategies, fast-paced gameplay, intense competition, captivating storytelling, significant financial resources, equitable distribution of broadcasting fees, proactive infrastructure investments, and a self-reinforcing structure, along with numerous star players and skilled managers.
Moreover, accessibility to the EPL is higher compared to leagues in other languages, such as La Liga in Spanish or Bundesliga in German, due to the widespread use of English.
During its early days, the EPL featured 22 teams, requiring each team to play 42 matches in a single season. However, due to concerns from FIFA about the excessive number of matches, the league was reduced to 20 teams.
Since the 1995-96 season, the EPL has played 38 matches per season, totaling 380 matches per season. The top 4 teams earn qualification for the UEFA Champions League. In contrast, teams ranked 5th to 6th qualify for the UEFA Europa League, and teams ranked 7th to qualify for the newly introduced UEFA Europa Conference League, based on the FA Cup and League Cup results. The bottom 3 teams are relegated to the lower league, EFL Championship.
