Group of the Year and Best Choreography double champions crowned
First K-pop girl group to win for two consecutive years
BLACKPINK has once again clinched the trophy at the U.S. 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (from now on MTV VMAs) as the first K-pop girl group to win two consecutive years.
On the 12th (local time), BLACKPINK won the Group of the Year award at the 2023 MTV VMAs held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA.
With this award, BLACKPINK has made history as the first Asian female group to win in this category at this awards ceremony.
Even when considering girl groups worldwide, BLACKPINK’s formidable stature and popularity as a top-tier global artist, not seen since TLC in the U.S. 24 years ago, are truly remarkable.
Furthermore, BLACKPINK also seized the title of Best Choreography with their pre-release track from their 2nd full album, Pink Venom. This is also a first for a K-pop girl group.
Previously, BLACKPINK won the Song Of The Summer trophy in 2020 with “How You Like That,” last year, they took home two awards, including Best Metaverse Performance and Best K-pop (Lisa Solo).
MTV VMAs is considered one of the four major U.S. popular music awards ceremonies, alongside the Grammy, Billboard, and American Music Awards.
Starting in 1984, it boasts a history of about 40 years and presents awards in approximately 24 categories.
BLACKPINK made it to the list of nominees in a total of 6 categories this year, setting a record for the most nominations by a group.
BLACKPINK is currently conducting its largest-scale world tour, BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR BORN PINK, attracting approximately 1.75 million spectators across North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, and more.
On the 16th and 17th, they will hold a concert at Seoul’s Gocheok Dome, decorating the grand finale of their world tour.
