Now, whenever you see coffee grounds at a cafe
You’ll definitely want to take them with you
Give it a try!
Coffee grounds, commonly seen at cafes, used to make us wonder, “Why do people take these?” But that’s changing. Did you know coffee grounds are beneficial even until the end? There’s something about the aroma of fresh coffee grounds that makes you feel like you’re still in the café while using them.
It turns out there was a good reason for cafes to encourage customers to take them home. After reading this, you might find yourself picking up coffee grounds from your local café too!
I’ve decided that from now on, I’ll take coffee grounds whenever I see them. After trying them out, I found they have many surprising benefits. Curious about how I used them? Well, I’m here to tell you!
1. Shoe Deodorizer
First, don’t just toss coffee grounds directly into your shoes! STOP! The reason is that coffee grounds are nutrient-rich after brewing coffee. Putting them in your shoes without drying them properly might encourage mold and create a worse odor. So, I put them in the microwave for a bit to remove moisture.
It’s crucial to dry them thoroughly! Once dried, you can place the coffee grounds inside a sock and put it inside your shoes. Voilà! You have a shoe deodorizer, and it doesn’t cost a thing.
Alternatively, you can put coffee grounds in a small bag and place them in your shoes. I tried that, too!
2. Everyday Air Freshener
When you think about unpleasant odors in your daily life, where do they usually come from? Your shoe rack and bathroom, right? It’s not difficult to transform these areas with a delightful coffee aroma. I placed coffee grounds in these spots. Just leaving them there infuses the space with a coffee scent. But remember, you still need to dry them properly before use. The coffee scent seems stronger when they’re not completely dry.
3. Grease Remover
Removing grease during dishwashing can be quite a challenge. But guess what? Coffee grounds can help with that! I initially wondered how effective this would be when I first tried it. But those who’ve tried it know just how effective it can be!
After using a frying pan, sprinkle coffee grounds in it and scrub gently. The coffee grounds absorb the grease, leaving your pan clean and grease-free. The coffee grounds will clump together as they absorb the oil. At that point, the grease will be gone!
Remember, coffee grounds are considered regular waste, so after use, wipe them away with a tissue before throwing them away. They don’t dissolve in water, so please don’t flush them down the sink!
4. Plant Fertilizer
As mentioned earlier, coffee grounds contain residual nutrients. They have various nutrients like minerals and proteins, making them suitable as plant fertilizers. However, don’t put too much; about 10% of your soil is sufficient.
Coffee grounds are truly versatile! The coffee aroma also keeps pests away, so it’s a win-win!
5. Exfoliant Scrub
Coffee grounds can be used on your skin, too. When you mix them with water and honey, they create a natural exfoliating scrub.
Gently massage your skin with this scrub to remove dead skin cells. Our skin is precious, so let’s take care of it gently. Personally, I found that honey works better than water. It gives the scrub a smoother consistency, making it easier to use. Give it a try!
Honestly, I used to wonder why people took coffee grounds from cafes. But now, I understand why. I didn’t even know coffee grounds contained nutrients. I think I’ll sprinkle some in my potted plants at home!
And most importantly, remember that coffee grounds are considered regular waste and don’t dissolve in water, so don’t flush them down the sink!
