A man was caught on camera rummaging through cars in an apartment parking lot, targeting unlocked vehicles.
Netizen ‘A’ recently posted a thread titled “A thief entered my car” on the popular Korean online community Bobaedream.
Identifying himself as a Tesla Model 3 owner living in an apartment in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, ‘A’ said, “I briefly went to my car around 8 am on the 10th and returned home, but it seems I might have forgotten to lock it.”
He added, “When I returned home with my wife in another car at lunchtime, I noticed the Tesla’s side mirrors weren’t folded. When I looked inside, all the storage compartments were open, and various items were scattered on the passenger seat. I was in shock. After regaining my composure, I checked the car’s dashcam footage and found a recording of someone rummaging through my car, followed by the sound of the car door closing.”
He explained, “I went to the apartment’s management office to request the surveillance camera footage, but my parking spot was in a blind spot. I asked the owner of a Mercedes parked opposite for their dashcam footage to review.”
The footage from the Mercedes’ dashcam showed a man with a bicycle wandering around the parking lot. He eventually approached and entered ‘A’s car.
‘A,’ who reported the theft to the police, revealed, “I lost 250,000 KRW (about $220) in cash, sunglasses, a USB memory stick, and a 4TB external hard drive.”
According to Article 329 of the Criminal Act, anyone who steals another person’s property can be sentenced to 6 years or fined up to 10 million KRW (about $7,500).
Netizens who came across the post expressed various reactions, including “Seeing him wandering around gives me chills,” “Wouldn’t there be fingerprints?” and “Even if there’s no surveillance camera in the parking space, he surely must’ve been caught on camera at the entrance…”
