FBI Director Christopher Wray warned that, since the start of the Israel-Palestine conflict, Islamic extremist groups have been inspired by the Palestinian armed terrorist group Hamas to devise terror plans of an unprecedented scale.

According to The New York Times (NYT), Wray revealed at a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing held on May 31st that the terrorist group Al-Qaeda has issued specific terror instructions to its followers in the U.S. Al-Qaeda, founded by Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, is an Islamic extremist armed terrorist group that has attacked the U.S. mainland.

He stated, “The majority of the information the FBI has gathered on Al-Qaeda over the past five years pertains to terror directed at the U.S. mainland. It has reached a significantly dangerous level since the outbreak of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Al-Qaeda is issuing instructions in various ways to the Islamic sleeper cells in the U.S.”

Indeed, anti-Semitic crimes in the U.S. have noticeably increased recently. According to statistics released by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), 312 anti-Semitic incidents occurred in the U.S. from May 7th to 23rd, with 190 of them related to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Director Wray stated, “Approximately 60% of the religious crimes committed in the U.S. last year were related to Judaism. Considering that the Jewish population in the U.S. is merely 3%, it’s hard not to suspect that some forces are systematically targeting Judaism.”

Meanwhile, hate crimes against Muslims and Arabs in the U.S. are also on the rise. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) revealed that about 700 Arab-Americans have sought counseling for victimization in the past month, asserting that hate crimes against Muslims have been increasing continuously since December 2015 when former President Donald Trump banned Muslims from traveling to the U.S.

The NYT reported, “Islamic civil groups are currently assessing how much Islamophobia has increased since the Israel-Palestine conflict. Muslim Americans are feeling more anxious now than they did during the 9/11 attacks in 2001.”
