Will they have the most formidable offense in the world?
Recently, Thomas Tuchel, the coach of Bayern Munich, mentioned in an interview that “If Mbappe wants to come to Munich, I will bring him on a bicycle if necessary.” However, Tuchel later clarified, “Mbappe’s move to Munich is unrealistic.”
However, local media had a different opinion. German media Sport1 reported, “Tuchel and the Munich leadership believe that recruiting Mbappe is not impossible.”
Sport1 had a reason for this claim. The media reported, “In 2019, Uli Hoeness, the honorary chairman of Munich, expressed his desire to recruit Mbappe.” At that time, Chairman Hoeness said, “If it were up to me, I would recruit Mbappe immediately.” Not only Tuchel but also the Munich leadership had a desire to recruit Mbappe. Sport1 revealed that “Mbappe’s name has been mentioned lightly several times in the meetings of the Munich leadership.”
The media also explained, “Looking at Munich’s recruitment of Harry Kane, despite being classified as a league where star players pass through, the Bundesliga is still an attractive league for top players.” An example of this claim was Kane. Kane was one of the top stars of the Premier League. However, he joined Munich with a transfer fee of 95 million euros (about $106.5 million), longing for a championship trophy. Therefore, the media argued, “Mbappe, who is as big a star as Kane, also has a possibility to come to Munich.”
However, the media explained that Mbappe’s enormous salary would be a stumbling block for his move to Munich. According to the report, Munich is known to stick to an internal salary cap of 25 million euros (about $28 million). Mbappe’s current salary at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is a whopping 100 million euros (about $112 million).
