Victim of Hwang Ui-jo’s video scandal
Reveals KakaoTalk chat history

Yonhap News

The victim of the leaked private video scandal involving soccer player Hwang Ui-jo, a South Korean national football team player, has revealed parts of a past phone call recording and KakaoTalk (South Korean mobile messaging app) chat history.

On the 23rd, the victim’s legal representative, attorney Lee Eun-ui, held a press conference at her office in Seocho-gu, appealing, “Stop the secondary victimization.”

Attorney Lee unveiled parts of the recorded call and chat history between Hwang Ui-jo and the victim, referred to as A, arguing, “Hwang has admitted to ‘illegal filming’ and is committing ‘secondary victimization’ by threatening the vulnerable victim to act according to his interests.”

In the released recording, A told Hwang Ui-jo, “I asked you to show me and clearly told you to delete it. But why is it still there?” and “I clearly said I didn’t like it. You have to admit that you did something illegal.”

Upon hearing this, Hwang Ui-jo apologized to A, saying, “I am trying my best to prevent any harm,” “I didn’t know this would happen when I filmed it,” and “I am truly sorry.”

A told Hwang Ui-jo through KakaoTalk, “You have to admit that you did something illegal anyway,” and “I have no intention of taking legal action against you if you handle this well.” To this, Hwang Ui-jo replied, “I am trying my best to prevent that.”

After the call ended, Hwang Ui-jo sent a KakaoTalk message to A, saying, “I didn’t film illegally, but it was my negligence that my phone was stolen.”

Upon seeing this, attorney Lee said, “He couldn’t refute the illegal filming during the call but suddenly mentioned it in KakaoTalk. This seems to be a preparation for future use of evidence,” and added, “He probably called a lawyer right after hanging up the phone.”

On the 22nd, Hwang Ui-jo’s side released a statement revealing the victim’s occupation and marital status.

In response, Attorney Lee added, “This is a severe secondary victimization and a clear threat and pressure against the victim.”

She emphasized, “The currently distributed video is the one filmed after deleting the video at the victim’s request,” and “The fact that he filmed again even after deleting it is an even more serious issue.”
