Ranked Second in the Power Hierarchy
Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un, is considered to be second in the country’s power hierarchy, following the so-called Mount Paektu bloodline(also known as the Kim dynasty). As international media highlighted Kim Yo Jong, the number of views skyrocketed to over a million.
On the 27th of last month, Germany’s public, state-owned international broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) released a documentary titled “The Red Princess – North Korea’s Most Powerful Woman” featuring Kim Yo Jong.
The video surpassed 1.4 million views in just four days. This surge in interest seems to reflect curiosity about the closed North Korean society, especially in light of recent events such as North Korea’s defiance of the UN Security Council resolution by launching a reconnaissance satellite.
The production team stated, “Kim Yo Jong, the dictator’s sister, is likely the most powerful woman in North Korea,” and “She is considered a nimble strategist with no emotional attachment to her brother, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.”
The video showed the turbulence of North Korean diplomacy, including the nuclear negotiation process, centered around Deputy Director Kim Yo Jong. It also suggested that Kim Yo Jong could potentially replace her brother, Kim Jong Un, in the event of his demise.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director Kim Yo Jong recently issued a statement urging the United States to withdraw its hostile policy before mentioning dialogue.
Kim Yo Jong is known for her sharp criticism in over 40 statements she has released so far. North Korean experts evaluate Kim Yo Jong as an “unprecedentedly influential princess of the Mount Paektu bloodline with tremendous diplomatic weaponry in North Korean history.”
