Partial Redesign of Tesla Model Y Leaked in China
A partially redesigned model of the Tesla Model Y has been completely leaked from a factory in China, ahead of its expected reveal in the first half of this year. Known by the project name ‘Juniper,’ this facelift model has adopted the recently revealed Model 3’s partial redesign.
Characteristics of the Design Changes
The new design features sharp front headlights and newly designed rear lamps, giving the vehicle a sleeker and sportier look compared to the previous model. As a crossover based on the Model 3, the roof has been raised to enhance the vehicle’s livability.
Expected Interior Design and Upgrades
Although no interior photos have been leaked this time, it is expected that the vehicle will undergo several upgrades including a redesigned steering wheel similar to the new Model 3, the removal of the gear shifter, the addition of ambient lighting, and ventilated seats.
Plans for Production Facility Improvements and Suspension
Tesla plans to upgrade its Shanghai factory’s facilities to produce the partially redesigned Model Y. Production will be suspended for about a week during next month’s Lunar New Year holiday. More facility improvements are expected once production resumes.
Market Outlook Based on the Leaked Model Y
The Model Y is a very important vehicle for Tesla. It was the global best-seller in 2023, selling the most units worldwide of any single vehicle. China, the largest market for the Model Y, accounts for 75% of its total sales. The competition is intensifying with local Chinese brands like BYD and Xiaopeng.
