The Yemeni Houthi rebels, who previously targeted a U.S. ship and faced U.S. airstrikes, have once again launched a missile attack on an American vessel.

As reported by CNN on the 15th (local time), the U.S. Central Command confirmed that a Houthi rebel anti-ship ballistic missile had struck a ship belonging to a U.S. company.

The vessel hit was the M/V Gibraltar Eagle, a bulk carrier operated by U.S. Eagle Bulk, while it was traversing the Gulf of Aden, transporting steel cargo.

In a recent statement, Central Command reported that the ship, though it sustained minor damage from the attack, is now safely leaving the area. They further confirmed that all crew members aboard the ship were uninjured.

This development follows closely on the heels of recent military actions by the U.S. and UK against the Houthi rebels. Following the outbreak of hostilities in Israel, Houthi rebels have persistently targeted Western cargo vessels traveling through the Red Sea. In response, the U.S. recently conducted airstrikes on rebel strongholds in Yemen in coordination with the UK.

The Houthi rebels remain defiant in the face of these significant attacks. Just the previous day, they had fired a missile at a U.S. Navy destroyer, which was successfully intercepted by the U.S. military.

A senior U.S. military official, as cited by The New York Times, indicated that the U.S. military is actively preparing for what could be a more extensive retaliatory air campaign against the Houthi rebels, suggesting the likelihood of the ongoing conflict between the two parties continuing.
