A series of injuries have occurred at a ski resort in Jeongseon County, Gangwon Province.
According to reports from Yonhap News and others on the 21st, a 10-year-old identified as “A” fell about 33 feet from a ski lift at a resort in Gohan-eup, Jeongseon County, around 6:42 pm.
Paramedics responded to the call and treated the child for back pain and nausea. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, but A was reportedly taken to the hospital for the back injury.
The fire department and other authorities stated, “At the time of the accident, A was wearing a helmet, and we are investigating the exact cause.”
Additionally, around 12:30 pm the same day, a man in his 40s, identified as “B,” who fell while skiing at the resort, also complained of back pain and received treatment at a nearby hospital.
A fire department official said, “To prevent accidents in winter leisure sports, it’s necessary to warm up to loosen joints and muscles thoroughly and always wear protective gear such as helmets.”
He added, “It’s also good to choose slopes that match your skill level and take plenty of rest while enjoying sports.”
Despite forecasts of heavy snowfall and cold weather last weekend, the major ski resorts in the Gangwon area were crowded with tourists looking to enjoy winter sports.
It was found that approximately 8,500 people visited a Ski Resort in Gangwon Province in a day, and News1Korea reported that about 6,000 people visited another ski resort.
In an interview with the media, an official from a local resort said, “We thought the number of visitors would decrease due to the cold weather forecast and heavy snow, but it didn’t stop people who wanted to enjoy the winter season.” He added, “Despite the bad weather, we welcomed tourists as snow removal work continued and safety checks were conducted regularly.”
