At the restaurant’s entrance was an English sign stating that only Japanese people were allowed. Despite the many empty seats, the restaurant owner said it was packed and was only open to Japanese people.
“There have been a lot of disturbances. Some people buy beer from convenience stores and drink it here, causing a nuisance to other customers,” the owner said. He explained the situation where he had suffered due to Korean tourists.
The same was true when they visited another restaurant that rejected Korean tourists. The restaurant owner said, “It’s okay to come with a regular customer. But first-time Korean customers are not allowed.” There was even a place that blatantly hung the Rising Sun Flag in front of the store.
There are still places that rejected Korean tourists even before the COVID-19 pandemic, and some have changed their approach.
