On the 17th, amidst severe cold weather, members of the Navy Special Warfare Flotilla (UDT/SEAL) conducted training exercises off the coast of Gangwon Province in the East Sea. These naval special forces soldiers immersed themselves in icy seawater and conducted clandestine infiltration missions. In snowy mountain areas, they remained vigilant while equipped with skiing gear and rappelled down steep slopes. The team created concealed hideouts to transmit intelligence gathered during special reconnaissance activities to their headquarters. Their missions also included enemy annihilation and target strikes.

This rigorous winter training for the Navy Special Warfare Flotilla, which began on the 16th and continues until the 25th, is designed to prepare for enemy infiltration scenarios. It comes in response to ongoing naval gunfire and missile provocations by North Korea in the Northern Limit Line (NLL) area.

The coastal infiltration training took place in the East Sea region. It covered high-speed rubber boat navigation, which involves maneuvering to approach enemy shores using high-speed rubber boats and coastal infiltration, surveillance, and expulsion tactics.

Snow mobility training occurred at a mountain training site in Gangwon Province. During this part of the training, special forces personnel practiced navigating snowy, steep mountain paths while wearing ski equipment and maintaining situational awareness.

Mountain mobility training was conducted in a mountainous region in Gangwon Province, focusing on minimizing exposure risks using terrain features. This training portion involved special reconnaissance activities and target strike exercises while traversing rugged, long-distance mountain paths.

Training Commander Cho Jung-min emphasized the objectives of the training, stating, “Through this training, we aim to maximize our special operations capabilities, ensuring we can swiftly and decisively neutralize the enemy and accomplish our mission in any situation.” He emphasized the unit’s readiness to infiltrate deep into enemy territory and eliminate threats.

It’s worth noting that North Korea has continued its military provocations since the beginning of the new year, conducting various missile tests and artillery fire exercises, creating ongoing security challenges in the region.
