Global metaverse platform Roblox announced on the 5th (local time in the U.S.) that it has introduced an automatic chat translation function to help users worldwide communicate freely and easily.
This feature was developed based on Roblox’s proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) technology and translates chat messages exchanged by users in real-time into 16 languages currently supported by Roblox, including Korean.
It looks like Roblox users worldwide will be able to chat with other users in the community in their preferred language. For example, if a Korean user enters a chat message in Korean, the message will appear in English to users who communicate in English, and at the same time, users who speak German can read the message in German and respond to it.
According to Roblox, as of the third quarter last year, users in 180 countries worldwide exchanged 904 billion chat messages over 12 months, and one out of every three messages required translation. Roblox introduced this feature in response to such high demand.
Daniel Sturman, Chief Technology Officer of Roblox, said, “We are planning to support various features in the future, such as AI-based voice translation, aiming for all parts of the user experience within Roblox to be perfectly translated into each user’s native language.”
