Five transgender athletes participated in a women’s college volleyball game in Canada at the same time, sparking controversy.
According to foreign media, such as the UK’s Daily Mail on the 12th (local time), a women’s volleyball game between Seneca College and Centennial College was held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on the 24th of last month.
In this game, five transgender athletes, including three from the Seneca team and two from the Centennial team, drew attention.
On that day, the transgender athletes played full-time throughout the game without even being substituted. As a result, some female athletes could only sit on the bench and watch the game. Seneca, who had more transgender athletes participating, won the game.
There is no clear regulation on the participation of transgender athletes locally, which continues to be criticized for harming other athletes.
In particular, one of the transgender athletes from Seneca, Franz Lagadas, played on the men’s volleyball team in the 2022-23 season. Still, he transitioned and made a name for himself as a female player in less than a year.
Meanwhile, it was reported that out of the six transgender athletes affiliated with the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA), five have not undergone hormone therapy or surgical operations.
