China Records Highest Average Temperature in 73 Years, Hits 51.28°F Amid Global Warming

Due to the effects of global warming, China’s average temperature last year was the highest in 73 years, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency on the 14th.

According to the 2023 China Climate Bulletin recently published by the China Meteorological Administration, the national average temperature last year was 51.28°F, which was 1.476°F higher than the average, setting a record since 1951.

The national average number of heatwave days was also 4.4 more than the average, the second highest since 1961.

In addition, China has recorded that the highest daily temperature in 127 countries worldwide has either set a new record or tied the existing one.

On the contrary, the national average rainfall was 24.21 inches, a decrease of 3.9% from the average.

Last year’s rainfall was the second lowest since 2012.

“Last year was the warmest year since the world’s weather records began,” said Jia Xiaolong, Deputy Director of the National Climate Center, adding, “The historical annual average temperature in the world and China has been showing a clear upward trend since the 1980s.”

The China Meteorological Administration predicted that a moderate El Niño (a phenomenon where the surface temperature of the tropical Pacific is higher than average) that occurred last May will continue until this spring.
