Hyundai’s exclusive electric sedan model, the Ioniq 6, has won the final champion title at “Best of the Year” conducted by CleanTechnica, a U.S. specialist electric car media outlet.

According to CleanTechnica, on the 15th, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 was selected as the “2023 CleanTechnica Car of the Year”. It boasted an overwhelming 81% of the vote, beating all of its final-round competitors, including the Mercedes-Benz EQE, Nissan Ariya, and Toyota BZ4X.

The CleanTechnica Car of the Year is determined through a reader poll. The finalists are chosen considering car performance, features, and sales, and then a reader survey is conducted. The car of the year this year was based on the car standard that is “most likely to have a positive impact on the global car market.”

Zachary Shahan, editor of CleanTechnica, emphasized, “Hyundai Motor Company has been a leader in the transition to electrification for years,” and confidently stated, “It has been praised for its electric vehicle design, efficiency, and development.” He added, “The Ioniq 6 is a model with excellent design and performance” and is “one of the few electric vehicles I can sincerely recommend to consumers looking to buy an electric vehicle.”

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) plans to utilize this result in marketing actively. Ricky Lao, in charge of product planning at Hyundai’s North American headquarters, said, “This award is a testament to Hyundai’s relentless efforts and momentum to realize progress for humanity, and I am truly delighted that the Ioniq 6 has won the hearts of voters to win the 2023 CleanTechnica Car of the Year award.” He said, “The Ioniq 6 is an electric vehicle that offers excellent driving dynamics and fast charging, long-distance driving, and a comfortable interior.”

The Ioniq 6 is an electric sedan model that uses the E-GMP-dedicated electric vehicle platform. It boasts a powerful motor output, long driving distance, quick and convenient charging, advanced safety specifications, linear styling, and a reasonable price. The Dynamic trim comes standard with a motor on the rear axle, delivering a maximum output of 225 horsepower and a maximum torque of 35.7 kg.m. The Technic and Epic trims add a 74kW motor to the front axle, delivering a maximum output of 320 horsepower and a maximum torque of 61.7 kg.m. It takes to reach 100 km from a standstill of 5.1 seconds.

The battery pack capacity is 77.4 kWh across all trims, but the driving range on a single charge varies depending on the output. The Dynamic trim, which uses only one motor, can drive 614 km, while the Technic and Epic trims can drive 519 km. Charging is handled by a 400·800V multi-rapid charging system. It can handle general 400 V charging and 800 V super-fast charging. In the case of super-fast charging, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
