The National Institute of Environmental Science and NASA are conducting an Asia Air Quality Joint Investigation (ASIA-AQ) to analyze the cause of air pollution in winter.
Yonhap News reported the news based on information confirmed by the National Institute of Environmental Science.
According to the report, NASA’s observatory DC-8 will take off from Osan Air Base in Gyeonggi Province around 10 a.m. on the 23rd.
Afterward, the DC-8 is planned to fly the route from Seoul Airport (Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province), Korea University (Seongbuk-gu, Seoul), Yonsei University (Seodaemun-gu, Seoul), Gimpo International Airport (Gangseo-gu, Seoul) to Incheon.
The DC-8 is expected to fly below 2000 feet (about 600 meters) during its low-altitude flight.
The DC-8 is a large aircraft with a length of 48 meters and equipped with four jet engines. The National Institute of Environmental Science warned that noise may occur when the DC-8 flies at a very low altitude.

The DC-8 is expected to fly several more times until the 26th.
