Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class EV Spotted, Set to Electrify the SUV Market

Mercedes-Benz GLC, EV Model Spotted
Presumed to be Second Generation EQC Model
Expected to be Unveiled in 2026

Mercedes-Benz, which had set a goal for complete electrification by 2030, is attracting attention with its new electric vehicle. The spotted vehicle is an SUV, which many believe is the second-generation version of the EQC, the GLC EV model.

The GLC EV, expected to be unveiled by Mercedes-Benz in 2026, is set to be produced in the United States. Detailed information has not been released, but many are excited about the four-wheel steering technology expected to be applied to the new GLC EV. At the same time, it has been confirmed that a new CLA EV model is also being test-driven.

Produced with a New Platform
Can it Achieve Success like the BMW iX3?

Despite struggling to make significant progress with electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz consistently shows movement towards releasing new electric vehicles. They are preparing a vehicle that uses a new platform to upgrade the EQC, first unveiled by Mercedes-Benz in 2018. This vehicle is the successor to the EQC, the GLC EV.

The GLC EV, designed to secure a wider interior space and reduce weight compared to the existing model, is assumed to be based on Mercedes-Benz’s next-generation electric vehicle exclusive platform, the MB.EA Architecture. The GLC EV vehicle plans to continue the lineup like BMW’s X3 and iX3.

Four-Wheel Steering Introduced in the Spotted S-Class
CLA EV Model Also Briefly Spotted

The most prominent feature of the spotted GLC EV is introducing four-wheel steering technology. This feature, a hot topic when applied to the existing Mercedes-Benz S-Class, allows the rear wheels to steer, enabling larger turning angles in tight spaces and proving useful when parking or making U-turns.

The EV model of the CLA was also briefly spotted alongside the GLC. The CLA, which survived the lineup consolidation of Mercedes-Benz, is preparing to launch both internal combustion engine models and electric models, aiming for a driving range of 400 miles.

GLC EV to be Produced in the U.S.
Can it Signal a Rebound?

The EQS, more popular in the U.S. than expected, was produced in the U.S. before moving production to Germany, and the GLC is scheduled to be manufactured in a U.S. factory. Attention is being paid to whether the change in production location will affect sales.

Detailed specifications have not been released as about two years remain until the launch. It is assumed that the driving range has been significantly increased compared to the existing EQC. It is yet to be determined whether the GLC EV, which will succeed the EQC, can follow the successful dual platform strategy of BMW’s X3 and iX3.
