In 2021, world-renowned golfer Tiger Woods had a serious accident where his vehicle overturned while driving. The car in question? The Genesis’ GV80. It was also supported as the Genesis Invitational event vehicle. It was a serious accident that could have cost him his life, but Tiger Woods survived with only a leg injury, causing an uproar around the world.

At the time, the Genesis GV80 was equipped with airbags with the highest safety specifications and the vehicle’s body fixation ability. It was said that Tiger Woods was able to survive, confirming the stability of Genesis while creating an overwhelming effect on the positive image of the brand.

Attempting major changes to the interior, Korean-style luxury positioning

Meanwhile, after the incident, Genesis was able to build recognition in the US and revitalized the export market with the title of cost-effective luxury. Since then, Genesis has been building Korean luxury with continuous facelifts and full changes along with improvements to its SUV lineup such as the GV70 and GV80.

The Genesis GV80 driven by Tiger Woods returned as a facelift model in the second half of 2023. Although there are no significant changes to the exterior, the interior has changed significantly and convenience has increased. The most notable features are the change from the existing rugby ball-shaped steering wheel to a three-spoke steering wheel, and the adoption of an integrated display to increase visibility.

News of continued facelift model, GV70 to be released in the first half of the year in South Korea

News of the facelift of the GV70, a mid-size SUV that is one segment lower than the GV80, continues daily. It appears as the facelift after 2021, and it is a car that receives a lot of praise for being already complete in terms of design, so in the case of this facelift, people are focusing on interior changes.

It seems likely that the interior of the GV70 will also be equipped with an integrated instrument panel-center display, similar to the new Genesis models. The GV70’s steering wheel is also expected to be changed to a three-spoke wheel, and it is not yet known whether a diesel model will be launched due to environmental regulations.

Relatively reasonable considering the advanced specifications that are competitive in both South Korea and the US

The price of the Genesis GV80, which will also be sold in North America, starts at $59,000. Compared to the North American launch price of the BMW X5 of $67,000, the price is sufficiently competitive. The North American launch date for the GV80 has not been set in detail, but it is expected to be launched within this year.

The facelift of the Genesis GV70 is scheduled to be launched in South Korea in the second quarter of this year, and in North America from the second half of the year. It is curious whether Genesis, which appears as facelift models, will be able to dominate both the North American and South Korean markets and establish itself as the Korean luxury leader.
