Rivian’s Entry Lineup R2
Recently, vehicle specifications were leaked and became a hot topic
Prices Start from approximately $48,012
In the US, various automotive brands have been competing fiercely. Among them is Rivian, an electric vehicle brand growing in scale as a startup thanks to the growing electric vehicle market. Rivian is growing rapidly, receiving massive investment from Amazon and Ford.
Rivian’s entry-level model was unveiled, and some specifications were leaked, making it a hot topic. The teaser video released last month revealed specific designs, causing a stir in the global electric vehicle market. As it is heralded as an affordable entry-level electric SUV, interest is focused on the R2.
$ 30,290 cheaper than R1S
Model Y also faces head-on competition
As price competition for electric vehicles intensifies, Rivian’s CEO previously announced that the R2 would be between $40,000 and $60,000. According to this leaked information, Rivian has set the starting price of the R2 at $47,500. This is more than $30,290 cheaper than the Rivian R1S, which was priced at $84,000 (about 110.92 million won). With this pricing, it is expected to compete head-on with Model Y.
The detailed battery specs of the R2 have not been revealed, but it can drive 330 miles (about 531 km) on a single charge. 0-to-62 mph performance takes just 3 seconds. With its high driving range and output, it is expected to demonstrate strong competitiveness among electric vehicle models in the same segment.
Similar size to Model Y
Similar design to R1S
The vehicle size is known to be 4,714 mm (about 185. 6 inches) in length, 1,905 mm (about 75 inches ) in width, and 1,775 mm (about 69.9 inches ) in height. Compared to Model Y, it is 36 mm (about 1.4 inches ) shorter in length and 15 mm (about 0.6 inches) narrower but 150 mm (about 5.9 inches) higher in height. The exterior resembles a scaled-down version of the R1, with Rivian’s family look primarily applied.
The daytime running lights, which are streamlined and extend horizontally along the front line, and the headlamps, designed as a vertically elongated oval, give a unique impression. The rear part was also revealed, and it also had horizontal tail lamps that extended to the sides, similar to the R1S. The end of the tail lamp is rounded.
Will It Be Released in South Korea?
Rivian Completes Trademark Registration
It was released with a similar design that felt like a lower segment from the R1S. It has a boxy exterior and a square design but is characterized by a sophisticated feel with rounded design details. This futuristic design received an explosive response from consumers.
Meanwhile, Rivian has registered trademarks for over 20 vehicle names and platforms along with the name Rivian IP Holdings in South Korea, so it is expected to be launched there. However, since it is still a startup company, it will take a considerable amount of time to acquire sufficient production capacity, so the timing of its launch in South Korea appears to be difficult for the time being.
