Soccer Star Son Heung Min Speaks Out on Retirement in Joint Interview with Jun Ji Hyun

TV Report Views

Actress Jun Ji Hyun and soccer player Son Heung Min each reveal the inside stories of their careers, sparking curiosity.

On March 18, Harper’s Bazaar Korea released the April issue double cover featuring Jun Ji Hyun and Son Heung Min.

To kick off the magazine’s April issue, Son and Jun had their photoshoots in London and Seoul, respectively. Embodying the theme “The Age of Innocence,” Jun showcased her timeless elegance through a black jacket and pants ensemble accentuated by exquisite details. A touch of bold red lipstick completed the look.

In the interview, Jun offered a thoughtful response about maintaining balance in her career. “There’s a distinct separation between being ‘on’ and ‘off’ as an actress,” she explained. “However, the artistic part of me is ever-present. Even in everyday moments, I subconsciously analyze emotions and think, ‘How would this feeling translate on screen?’ In a way, acting is more like a calling than a choice. It’s something that’s deeply ingrained in me, and that’s why it’s difficult to switch off completely.”

Rekindling a previous sentiment, Jun reiterated her lifelong dedication to acting. “The core remains the same,” she declared. “Like I said, I do not dwell on the past or future. My focus is on showcasing the best of myself in the present.”

Delving into her daily routine, Jun shared, “It’s a perfect day when I can squeeze in some exercise, catch up with friends, indulge in delicious food, enjoy a cozy dinner at home with family, and unwind before bed by browsing streaming platforms for my next favorite show. That’s when I feel most like myself.”

Son Heung Min’s London Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024 photoshoot unveiled a surprising new facet of his personality. Shot within the walls of a unique mansion, the photos depict him as a fashion icon in a complete departure from his usual image.

Following the photoshoot, Son tackled a thought-provoking question about his relationship with soccer. “The idea of soccer being an unrequited love? Never crossed my mind,” he chuckled. “I pondered it deeply, but soccer’s the reason for my tears and my laughter. It’s a true love story – we have each other’s backs.”

Soccer is truly ingrained in me,” Son Heung Min admitted. “Even when relaxing at home, I catch myself flipping on soccer highlights. Sometimes, while driving, I am mesmerized by kids playing on the street. Even conversations with family inevitably turn into discussions about the sport. It seems soccer threads its way through every aspect of my life.”

Son addressed a prior comment about his post-retirement plans. “My heart,” he declared, “will always belong to soccer. That much I can promise myself. While I cherish the beautiful game and the joy of playing, I don’t see myself instructing others. The thrill of striking the ball myself – that’s irreplaceable. Naturally, as a fan, I’ll stay connected to the sport, reveling in its magic.”

Son’s eyes lit up when asked about his aspirations. “There’s a burning desire within me,” he confessed. “Maybe I don’t always wear it on my sleeve, but the hunger to win is undeniable. Every game, every competition – I crave victory and the joy of hoisting the trophy. But beyond the accolades, I want to give back to the sport that’s given me so much. Ultimately, my dream is to find lasting happiness on the pitch, just like I do now.”
