The arrival of the Cybertruck in South Korea last month via Busan Customs has sparked rumors of its imminent domestic launch. However, the Cybertruck was brought in not for an official launch but for a public reveal at the Suwon World Cup Stadium. Consequently, there is high anticipation about when the Cybertruck will officially launch in the country.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk has announced plans to produce at least 250,000 Cybertrucks annually by 2025. Yet, the likelihood of this happening is low due to challenges in establishing a mass production system. The difficulty in mass-producing the Cybertruck is attributed to its stainless steel body, which is hard to work with and considerably heavy.

Stainless steel is excellent, but not for cars

The primary material for the Cybertruck’s exterior is stainless steel.
This super-hard material, impervious to bullets, is widely used in industrial machinery and household appliances but not often in cars, which has sparked much discussion. Stainless steel may have excellent strength and hardness, but it lacks several characteristics that make it an ideal vehicle material.

Most car engines operate at high temperatures, so the low thermal conductivity of stainless steel restricts heat efficiency.
Additionally, it is more expensive than regular steel, making it less efficient for mass-produced cars that typically use aluminum alloys and carbon fiber-reinforced plastics, among other materials. One of the most discussed issues about Cybertruck’s body was the paint problem. Tesla previously stated that painting the Cybertruck’s stainless steel body is nearly impossible.

Six additional colors were added to wrap choices
Wrapping costs around $7,600

However, Tesla seems to have found a solution, adding three new wrap choices last month and six more recently. The new wrap colors are Forest Green, Satin Crimson Red, Iridescent Purple, Tactical Green, Satin Dark Gray, and Copper Tinted Clear. These are in addition to the existing five colors, bringing the total to 11 color choices.

To avail of the wrapping option, customers need to pay approximately $ to avail of the wrapping option7,600. The Slip Gray, Satin Stealth Black, and Satin Ceramic White colors are available at a discounted price of around $7,000. The new colors are marked as “sold out” or “coming soon” on the Tesla website. Customers can receive notifications when these colors become available.

Made of self-healing urethane-based film
Twice as thick as regular vinyl

Like the existing color choices, the new colors are made of a self-healing urethane-based that is about twice as thick as regular vinyl. The wrapping can protect the stainless steel body parts, but it’s still unclear whether it can protect the body from other harmful elements that cause oxidation.

According to reports from a foreign media outlet, a customer complained of corrosion on their Cybertruck just two months after purchasing it last month. In response, Wes Morrill, the lead engineer of Tesla’s Cybertruck, firmly stated on his social media account that the rust stains were not from the vehicle but from surface contaminants that could easily be removed.
