A piece of art by musician G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji Yong) scheduled for auction was unexpectedly withdrawn on the day of the event, causing a stir online.

G-Dragon’s agency, Galaxy Corporation, clarified on March 29 that the artist was not involved in submitting the mixed media artwork “Youth is Flower” for auction.

The agency added, “The artist does not know who or how the work was submitted.”

A mixed media piece titled “Youth is Flower” by G-Dragon was slated to go under the hammer at the Seoul Auction. Created in 2017, the artwork features G-Dragon’s signature daisy motif, spray-painted and marked onto a metal panel. The starting bid for this unique piece was set at approximately $26,000.

The work was supposed to be auctioned off at the Contemporary Art Sale held at Seoul Auction Gangnam Center in Shinsa-dong, Seoul, on March 29, but it has been confirmed that the auction has now been canceled.

Known as an art enthusiast, G-Dragon was listed among the 50 Collectors to Watch by Art News in 2019, proving his strong interest in art.

He also garnered attention for designing the cover of the February issue of FORTUNE KOREA, the Korean edition of the American global economic magazine FORTUNE, which featured Galaxy Corporation CEO Choi Yong Ho.

G-Dragon was acquitted of drug charges last year and has established the Just Peace Foundation for drug eradication activities and support for socially disadvantaged artists. He has also garnered attention for his anticipated comeback this year.
