Jaguar eventually discontinued sales in South Korea due to low sales and harsh reviews. However, most people recognized the design. Ian Callum designed the Jaguar vehicles. He had previously designed the DB7 and Vanquish at Aston Martin, and after moving to Jaguar in 1999, he developed several other cars.
In 2019, Ian Callum left Jaguar and established his design studio called Callum. After establishing the studio, he collaborated with several brands, including Aston Martin, with whom he had previously worked, to design and recently unveil the SKYE, a vehicle to be introduced under Callum.
Coupe-style off-road vehicle, Callum Skye
CALLUM SKYE is a coupe-style off-roader that Callum designed, engineered, and developed. Its shape is closer to an ATV than a typical off-roader SUV, and it has a 2+2 interior configuration. In other words, the two seats in the back are closer to the luggage space.
Ian Callum is famous for incorporating unique concepts into vehicles while working at Jaguar. For Jaguar, which has had a profound design for a long time, he implemented a significant image change starting with the 5th generation XJ model in 2009. Jaguar’s first vehicle, the i-Pace, was designed as a crossover with a unique concept. The CALLUM SKYE unveiled this time, presented a unique design optimized for both on-road and off-road use.
Outstanding performance both on-road and off-road
CALLUM SKYE was developed as a pure electric vehicle, and although performance figures have not been disclosed, it is said to start at over 300 horsepower. Its performance is similar to typical electric cars sold today, but its curb weight is considerably lighter at 1,150 kg (about 2,535 pounds). Additionally, it is said that it takes less than 4 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph). It is also equipped with a 42.0 kWh battery, and the driving range on one single full charge is 274 km (170 miles).
The ground clearance is about 35 cm ( about 14 inches), and the wheels are large, so off-road performance is also excellent. It is equipped with a suspension optimized for off-road, allowing the wheels to move up and down significantly. The frame has carbon fiber links to increase rigidity and reduce weight. The vehicle body is also made of lightweight composite material.
Less than 100 units are produced annually, set to launch in 2025 officially
CALLUM SKYE will be produced entirely by hand at a factory in Warwick, UK. Since it is handmade, the quantity is limited, only 100 units per year, and the price is unknown.
Driving tests will be conducted in the first half of 2024, and official sales will begin in 2025. It is planned to be launched in Europe first and then in North America.
