Setting a New World Record

A man has set a new world record with squats.

On April 6, Tony Piraino of Illinois completed 26,100 squats in 24 hours, achieving a new world record.

Piraino began his challenge of doing 26,000 squats in 24 hours at 5 AM on April 5 and completed it at the same time the next day.

To maintain the stamina and energy needed to reach his goal, Piraino took a 30-second break every 22 squats and took several longer breaks throughout the day.

While continuing his challenge, he also consumed energy drinks and snacks rich in carbohydrates, and despite telling reporters that it was “getting harder,” he exceeded his expectations.

By 5 AM on April 6, Piraino not only surpassed his previous record of 25,000 squats in 24 hours but also exceeded his goal of 26,000 by an additional 100 squats.

Piraino told reporters, “I was inspired by athlete David Goggins, who set a world record by doing 4,030 pull-ups in 17 hours and 45 minutes in 2013. After reading his book ‘Can’t Hurt Me,’ I challenged my limits.”

Piraino claims this achievement could be a record, though Guinness World Records have not officially verified it.

With this record, Piraino surpassed the squat world record set by Joe Rivard of Rhode Island in 2020 by a whopping 1,000 squats.
