BMW i4 Facelift
New Motor, Battery
Difficult to Install This Year
The BMW brand’s mid-size fastback electric sedan i4 will produce a facelift version in July 2024. It has been about three years since the existing model was launched, and it is expected to provide improved performance and driving range. However, it is said that the improved motor and battery will not be applied to the model to be produced this year but to the model scheduled to be produced in July 2025.
In addition, a quad-motor version of the i4 is also being developed and will produce up to 1,341 horsepower. BMW’s continued upgrading of the i4’s performance is evaluated positively. Still, people are somewhat confused by the discrepancy between the release date of the facelift version and the installation date of the new motor and battery.
Planned to Apply From the 2025 Model
No Major Exterior Changes
The BMW i4, which has been previously released and sold, has an output of 396 horsepower based on eDrive40, a battery capacity of 80.7 kWh, and fast charging of 205 kW. The maximum driving distance is up to 590 km (367 miles) based on WLTP. The vehicle that also attracts attention is the facelift version of the i4, which was often seen driving with camouflage covering until recently.
There are no significant changes to the exterior of the facelift version. However, changes are expected to be made in small parts, such as the headlamp and rear lamp, and it is expected to maintain the individuality of the i4 while forming a family look with the i5. In addition, the Iconic Glow applied to the upper trims of recent new BMW models is expected to be used.
i4 with Quad Motor
Predicted to be an Electrified M4
As briefly mentioned at the beginning of the article, BMW also announced that it plans to produce a high-performance electric sports car equipped with a quad motor for the i4, and it is expected that this model will most likely be an electric model of the M4. There are no specific specifications or public information yet, but only the information that the maximum output exceeds 1,341 horsepower has been unveiled.
Due to the nature of BMW’s facelift model, there are no significant changes other than partial changes, so many people did not expect the model to be produced in July of this year. People who heard that the application of new motor and battery will only be possible in 2025 are disappointed.
i4 Popular in South Korean Market
Cynical response draws attention to the i3 sedan
The BMW i4 is also quite popular in South Korea. The vehicle will likely be launched as early as the second half of this year. As an imported electric sedan in South Korea, some expect it may compete with TesTesla’sdel 3 Highland. Still, it has been revealed that domestic consumers are also very interested in BMWBMW’sher electric sedan, the i3, perhaps due to unfavorable information.
Unlike the existing hatchback-shaped i3, the i3 sedan, which looks like a sedan 3 series and is equipped with an electric powertrain, is exclusively for the Chinese market. In particular, it is consistently mentioned in South Korea as it has a more legitimate sedan shape than the i4, so there is no difference in likes or dislikes.
