Top Military Education Institution in North Korea
Emphasizes Thorough Preparation for War
On April 10th, the day of the 22nd general election, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was active in public, visiting an educational institution that trains operatives.
The Workers’ Party of Korea’s newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on April 11th, the day after the general election, that “Comrade Kim Jong Un conducted on-site guidance at Kim Jong Il Military Academy, the highest hall of military education in our country, on April 10th.”
At this event, Kim Jong Un reportedly issued a warning to the enemies of North Korea.
The Kim Jong Il Military Academy is a North Korean educational institution that trains operatives and combatants. As an institution bearing Kim Jong Il’s name, it is regarded as one of the top educational institutions in North Korea.
It was first mentioned in North Korean media when it appeared at the military parade celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea in October 2020.
Graduates are known to receive high-ranking or lieutenant ranks and serve in the Ground Force and Navy of Reconnaissance General Bureau, the Foreign Intelligence Agency of the Reconnaissance General Bureau, and the Cultural Exchange Bureau of the United Front Department.
Even if they couldn’t graduate, they could work as leaders of the Workers’ Party of Korea or officials of lead agencies in various regions of North Korea since they are considered the elites based on their ideology, status, and ability.
Kim Jong Un toured various facilities such as college classrooms, dormitories, dining halls, and operational research rooms.
According to Rodong Sinmun, he provided dinner for the faculty and students in the dining hall, which he prepared with various foods. The accompanying photos showed a table with meat, lettuce, green onions, kimchi, apples, and pears.
A large map and a compressed topographic map of a city were prepared in one of the classrooms. The North Korean authorities reported this with mosaic processing, and it was presumed to be a map of some regions in South Korea and a model of Seoul.
Kim Jong Un emphasized that day to the military leaders that now is the moment to be more thorough in preparing for war than ever before.
He was reported to have said, “If the enemy chooses a military confrontation with us, we will annihilate them without hesitation by mobilizing all means at our disposal.”
He added, “Overcoming the enemy’s numerical and technological superiority with the superiority of ideology and tactics is an unchangeable law of victory yesterday, today, and tomorrow,” and “Absolute loyalty and obedience to the Party Central guidance.”
The Ministry of Unification of South Korea interpreted this remark as an attempt to encourage high-ranking military commanders and induce loyalty and unity.
Meanwhile, North Korea recently disbanded the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland, which was formally established in 1949.
This organization, composed of about 20 North Korean parties and social groups, including the Workers’ Party of Korea and the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, had been issuing statements related to South Korea.
Earlier, at the Workers’ Party plenary meeting at the end of last year, Kim Jong Un defined inter-Korean relations as hostile war relations.
North Korean experts in South Korea predict that inter-Korean relations will not go smoothly.
