Japanese automakers are generally considered latecomers in electrification. They took a reasonably passive stance in the early days of electrification, but the situation is slightly different now. Now, they are focusing more on electrification than any other brand. Honda is also included among them.

Honda recently delivered some surprising news. The Honda brand unveiled its new electric vehicle series, the Ye series. However, it is said that the series cannot be found in Japan, which is Honda’s home market. This is because the series is aimed solely at the Chinese market.

Honda Ye series
Targeting the Chinese market

Honda recently unveiled a new electric vehicle model, the Ye series, in the Chinese market. As mentioned earlier, the series was developed solely for the Chinese market. According to local industry experts, the Ye series will succeed the e:N series that Honda sells in the Chinese market. Honda unveiled a total of three vehicles through this series. Two of them are said to be mass-produced models, and one is a concept car. First, let’s look at the mass-produced model.

The Ye P7 and Ye S7 have been unveiled as mass-produced models. Both models were developed based on the newly developed Honda EV platform and offered the same single motor-rear wheel and dual motor-front wheel specifications. The biggest difference between the two models is the design. The P7 is styled with a more organized and sleek design, while the S7 has a sportier and sharper design.

GT concept car was also unveiled
Mass production planned for the future

The Ye GT has been unveiled as a concept car. It features a low body like a coupe. As for the overall design, it is sportier and sharper than the S7 mentioned above. Unfortunately, no information other than the design has been revealed.

One thing is certain: Honda plans to launch a production model based on the Ye GT. Various information about the Ye GT is assumed to be released just before the mass-production model is launched. The Ye GT’s launch date is expected to be 2027.

Unveiled at Auto China
Scheduled for launch in 2025

Honda plans to unveil three Ye series at Auto China to be held in China at the end of April 2024. For the P7 and S7, sales will begin in the second half of 2024, and customer delivery is scheduled for the first half of 2025. For Ye P7 and Ye S7, specific price information has not been disclosed to the market.

Honda officials said they plan to introduce 10 new electric vehicles to the Chinese market by 2027. He explained that 6 out of 10 cars will be Ye series. It is confirmed that this plan is one of Honda’s big plans for electrification, which dreams of full electrification by 2035.
