BYD’s Big Bet: Can Their Super9 Supercar Outshine Lamborghini and Ferrari?

BYD Unveils New SUV and Supercar Under Premium Brand
Demonstrates Robust Competitiveness

BYD Super9

Chinese automaker BYD recently announced that it will unveil new SUVs and supercars under its premium brand, Fincher. At the BYD conference on April 16, three new vehicles were revealed: the concept SUV Super 3, the flagship SUV Bao 8, and the convertible supercar Super 9.

The most noticeable among them is the Super 9, designed as a roadster. The design of this vehicle involves former director Wolfgang Egger, who previously worked with Lamborghini and Audi. The car exudes a similar vibe to a Lamborghini with its scissor doors, and the open cockpit design without a windshield gives it a Ferrari Monza SP-like appearance.

Lamborghini Designer’s Touch on
Pure Electric Supercar Bao9

This vehicle will be a pure electric supercar powered by a battery, not a plug-in hybrid powertrain. To commemorate the 30th anniversary, the number 30 is inscribed on the side of the vehicle. It is expected to be named Bao 9 when it is released as a production model.

However, the supercar was not the only star of the show. The entry-level model Bao3, focused on off-road driving, exudes majesty just by its appearance. It displays a unique character with a total length exceeding 4,700mm (approximately 185 inches). The car’s chassis has been inspired by ‘Star Wars,’ giving it a futuristic vibe.

Solid SUV Lineup
Flagship Bao 8 Draws Attention

Bao 5, launched last November, is a main model that sold more than 3,000 units in China in March alone. It is positioned between the Bao 3 and Bao 8 and is expected to be launched at a price not exceeding 50 million won (approximately $44,000). In addition, the brand’s flagship SUV, Bao 8, was also presented. Based on BYD’s dual-mode off-road platform, it is a large SUV with a three-row seating arrangement.

With a boxy design that doesn’t divide opinions, it is expected to be launched in the market in the second half of this year to compete with Toyota’s Land Cruiser. BYD is shaking up the electric vehicle market in China and worldwide with its aggressive strategy. Therefore, unveiling these new vehicles will significantly impact the automotive industry in major countries like Europe and the United States.

BYD’s Aggressive Strategy
Will it Prove Successful in the Korean Market?

BYD sold 3 million vehicles in 2023 alone and plans to increase this to 3.6 million by 2024. In Korea, BYD’s brand recognition is significantly higher than that of other Chinese brands, and its quality is highly anticipated.
