Ram Electrifies the Off-Road Game: Introducing the 1500 TRX Electric Model!

newautopost Views

Ram, a Stellantis subsidiary and pickup truck manufacturer, is struggling to narrow the gap with competing models as it entered the electric pickup truck market one step late. Recently, news broke that Ram is adding powerful off-road technology to the 1500 TRX and producing it as an electric model.

The 1500 TRX will not only have excellent off-road technology but will also be equipped with an electric or hybrid system. Meanwhile, as regulations on exhaust gas become more stringent, the pickup truck industry is also quickly responding. GMC has already launched the Hummer EV pickup and SUV models one step ahead of Ram, and electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian is producing both on-road and off-road versions of the R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV.

The Electric Model 1500 TRX Equipped with Off-Road Technology

It has been reported that an electric model of the Ram 1500 TRX will be released following the upcoming Ram 1500 REV and Ramcharger. Ram said of the 1500 TRX electric model that the truck is no longer intended to tow trailers or haul goods. The company also said that the next-generation 1500 TRX is not only a high-performance truck but also a model that can do everything, including crawling over rocks and driving through the desert.

In particular, Ram insiders and those in the pickup truck industry confirmed that Ram is researching various ways to leverage the instantaneous torque that electric motors can provide and the capabilities of battery-powered technology. This is said to be a useful technique for both rock crawling and off-the-line acceleration.

Parent Company of Ram, Stellantis, Won’t Need to Purchase Emission Rights

“People like the sportier side of electric vehicles,” said Doug Killian, Composite Manager for the Ram RHO program. He also said, “The new TRX will either be a pure electric vehicle or use hybrid drive.” It has been also confirmed that the new TRX has a variety of battery-based technologies that can be pulled out of the toolbox.

A Ram official said, “The current TRX is a big polluter, and with the EPA recently finalizing increasingly stringent pollution regulations, launching an electric model of the TRX means that parent company Stellantis will no longer have to buy emissions credits.”

Wrangler 4xe’s Hybrid System Will Be Equipped With 1500’s Twin Electric Motors

According to foreign media, TRX is expected to be equipped with the plug-in hybrid system used in the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the twin motor EV system of the 1500. And, although it uses the same motor drive system as the 1500, it is said that a battery pack with a larger RAM charger can be used.

Meanwhile, RAM is preparing to launch the 1500 REV. The Ramcharger, which uses the Hurricane I-6 engine as an onboard generator, is also scheduled to be launched soon. RAM’s push for electrification does not appear to end here, and future developments are expected.
