Major Japanese automakers have recently been accused of large-scale quality manipulation. Thanks to this, there are predictions that South Korean automakers such as Hyundai and Kia will benefit from overseas markets. This is because its value has increased as a replacement for Japanese vehicle models.
In a way, this is a golden opportunity for South Korean automakers. However, opinions are emerging that it may be difficult to properly capitalize on this opportunity. This is because Hyundai and Kia are continuously reporting news of recent defects. Following the large-scale recall of the Kia Telluride are the Hyundai Tucson and Santa Cruz.
Both Vehicles Found With Circuit Board Defects
Recently, Hyundai announced that it would recall the 2024 model of the Tucson and Santa Cruz due to the possibility of loss of power steering assist. According to the safety recall report, the cause of both models was the use of contaminated flux on the circuit board responsible for the power steering system.
The report revealed that contaminated flux increases the possibility of short circuits on circuit boards, which can lead to system errors. What is relatively fortunate is that the recall scale is small, totaling 795 units.
No Accidents Reported Despite High Risk Of Collision
There’s a possibility of the car losing the power steering assist function if there’s a circuit board defect. With this, the government stated, “The sudden and unexpected loss of the power steering assistance function while driving the vehicle may increase the risk of collision,” adding, “In serious cases, it could even lead to casualties.”
Hyundai announced that it confirmed that breakdowns occurred in five vehicles in May 2024. In the subsequent investigation, two additional cases were reported, and it was eventually decided to proceed with the recall. Fortunately, it is reported that no injuries or crashes related to the recall have been identified.
Free Recall Services in August 2024
Hyundai announced that it would replace the electric power pack of the power steering system and recall the vehicles in question free of charge. It is said that the recall notification will be sent to owners in August 2024.
