Functional errors also occur frequently
Tesla dog mode defect reported
Recently launched vehicles are equipped with a range of driving options that prioritize the convenience and safety of all passengers. Cars have evolved beyond mere transportation means, transforming into spaces that offer functionalities extending well beyond driving.
However, if this function does not work correctly, its existence becomes meaningless. In particular, if a function for the safety of drivers, passengers, or pets malfunctions, it can directly impact life. Recently, there have been incidents where the Dog Mode function installed in Tesla vehicles did not work correctly. Let’s take a look at the details.
Due to a firmware update bug
Dog mode operation error occurred
Due to Tesla’s firmware update, the Dog Mode function did not work correctly. On Reddit, an American online community, the owner of a Tesla Model Y posted that he activated dog mode with his pet in the vehicle, but it malfunctioned.
The owner usually turned on the dog mode and left the pet in the vehicle, but the indoor temperature was set to 18°C (64.4 F), while the outside temperature was hot at 30℃ (86 F). Ten minutes later, he received a notification that an error had occurred in dog mode and hurried back to the vehicle, but the temperature in the car had already risen to 28℃ (82.4 F).
No explanation from Tesla
It only mentioned refraining from using Dog Mode
The owner then raised a problem with the air conditioner’s function. He immediately reported this to Tesla, but the only reply he received was, “We confirmed a problem with the dog mode firmware in a remote test, and since it is still under investigation, please refrain from using dog mode for the time being.”
Tesla’s firmware version was 2024.20.1, part of software update 2024.20 released earlier this month. This version is said to have improved headlights, HVAC, and gaming systems, but the dog mode defect is expected to cause quite a stir.
A defect that only occurs in some models
The absurd fact is that the defect does not apply to all Tesla owners. Some Tesla drivers say their owners are running without significant issues after a recent over-the-air update. Nevertheless, it seems doubtful that Tesla directly recommended limiting the use of dog mode.
