Renault Aurora 1 finally unveiled
The official model name is Grand Koleos
Revealed with a radical design
Renault Korea (Renault’s corporation in South Korea) unveiled the mid-sized SUV Grand Koleos, which was under the project name Aurora 1, for the first time at the 2024 Busan Mobility Show. Renault Korea, struggling to boost sales due to a lack of new vehicles in its lineup, is expected to aim for a breakthrough with the introduction of the Grand Koleos.
The Grand Koleos was produced based on China Geely’s Xingyue L. However, the design has changed significantly by applying Renault’s family look, including the Losange logo, to suit South Korean consumer preferences. Let’s look at the Grand Koleos, which is expected to be the model responsible for Renault Korea’s future performance.
The angled front design stands out
Application of diamond-shaped grill
At the front, a hexagonal diamond pattern grill is used instead of the vertical slot chrome grill applied to Geely’s Xingyue L. The grill pattern is also somewhat unique rather than a typical shape. The hexagonal pattern narrows towards the top, and the grill area becomes wider. Conversely, the hexagonal pattern becomes wider toward the bottom of the grill, emphasizing the pattern design.
The headlamp box has a rectangular design. Inside the box, a horizontally extending DRL is applied. The top and bottom are each lined up with one line, and the detail is divided into three. The lower bumper grill has a trapezoidal design. The same hexagonal pattern as the upper grill is applied to the bumper grill, creating a sense of unity in design.
Bold volume applied to the hood
Horizontal taillights
A black high-gloss panel adds detail next to the bumper grille. On the side, a vertical air intake shape was placed to emphasize a sportier appearance. The angular volume and sharper lines on the bumper line stand out here. While the front line is made of angular and sharp lines, the bonnet line emphasizes volume and curved lines to create contrast.
The bonnet is structured with a streamlined line that bends toward the center and a sideline that goes straight down to create a sense of volume. A bold design is also applied to the bonnet. A horizontal tail lamp is applied to the rear. In the case of the thin tail lamp that runs between the tailgates, the area is expanded in a rectangular shape on the side.
Interior with a wide display
Enhanced product quality with a hybrid
The interior features a comprehensive display that extends along the dashboard. The air vents and various control buttons were applied horizontally, starting with the wide display. The center display protrudes toward the center to increase visibility. On the other hand, the digital instrument panel and driver’s seat are recessed into the dashboard. The protruding dashboard appears to cover the instrument panel at an angle and block light reflecting from the sun.
The Grand Koleos has three trims: Techno, Iconic, and Esprit Alpine. Here, a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine is combined with a hybrid system. As a combination of a mid-size SUV and hybrid, which are in high demand in South Korea, significant demand is expected, and attention is paid to the performance of the Grand Koleos in the future.
