New 3-row electric SUV announced, making headlines
SUVs that the whole family can use are in great demand worldwide. Therefore, manufacturers put the most effort into making them. Various family cars have recently been launched equipped with hybrid powertrains and electric motors to enhance eco-friendliness.
Previously, Toyota unveiled a concept car for an electric SUV. The vehicle likely to appear as a top model of bZ4x is bZ5x. It will be Toyota’s first electric SUV with three rows of seats. Let’s find out what it will look like and its global outlook.
What kind of vehicle is bZ5x?
Let’s find out through the concept car
The bZ series is one of Toyota’s electric vehicles, popular in the Japanese and North American markets. In particular, the bZ5x, to be introduced this time, is well known as a vehicle that will be the successor to the Highlander sold in the North American market.
The appearance could be expected through the concept car released in 2022, and the elongated roofline and square wheel arches are impressive. As for the front part, like an electric car, the grill cannot be seen. The angled cutout in the headlight area mainly resembles the bZ4x. Of course, it may be difficult to release the concept car according to its design, but we can somewhat anticipate the real thing.
Performance has not been disclosed either
It seems to be better than bZ4x
Nothing specific about performance has been revealed yet. However, batteries and motors with much-improved performance will likely be applied compared to the bZ4x. The bZ4x, equipped with a 71.4 kWh battery pack, can drive up to 500 km (311 miles) on a single charge based on WLTP. The maximum output is 218 horsepower (based on 4WD).
The bZ5x is expected to feature a large-capacity battery pack. Given its extended body and the additional curb weight from incorporating three rows of seats, there’s a strong case for making dual motors and four-wheel drive standard features. This setup would enhance the vehicle’s performance and handling to match its increased size and capacity.
Scheduled for launch in North America in 2025
No specific release schedule has been set for Toyota’s bZ5x, which will be released in 2025. It will be produced at the Georgetown plant in Kentucky, US, and all battery production and application processes will be carried out at the Liberty plant in North Carolina.
