Tesla Cybertruck
Suspected sudden unintended acceleration accident occurred
What’s more shocking?
The Tesla Cybertruck is considered the most durable mass-produced vehicle to date. It was made of ultra-hard cold-rolled stainless steel outer plate, and at the time of its release, it attracted attention for its sturdiness that even blocked bullets. It is known to be so strong that it is comparable to a tank, so it does not even deform in the slightest contact accident.
However, if you are involved in an accident severe enough to cause damage to your vehicle, you must be prepared. This is an issue beyond safety or repair costs. It is becoming an issue as news spread that repairs may take more than a year due to a lack of proper parts procurement.
Suddenly, it accelerates on its own
The brakes don’t even work
According to foreign media reports, an accident occurred where a Tesla Cybertruck collided with a house. The owner posted a post on X. In his post, he claimed that he experienced a sudden unintended acceleration in which the vehicle accelerated alone. The moment he started on the road near his home, the car accelerated independently, and the brakes and the steering wheel stopped working.
The Cybertruck finally came to rest after crashing into a neighbor’s house and truck. Previously, Tesla recognized the possibility that the accelerator pedal cover could fall off and become stuck between the pedals, causing sudden unintended acceleration, and halted shipment and issued a recall. However, this accident is becoming an issue in another aspect.
Smashed within 4 hours of delivery
The repair cost alone is about $30,000
The Cybertruck is designed to cut off the accelerator pedal signal when the brake pedal is pressed during sudden unintended acceleration. However, it is said that only the rear wheels of the accident vehicle were braked, and the front wheels continued to drive until just before the collision, even though the owner stepped on the brake pedal. Accordingly, Tesla explained, “Depending on the terrain, whether or not the accelerator pedal signal is blocked may vary.”
Meanwhile, the owner was said to have had an accident just four hours after receiving the vehicle, adding to his sadness. It is fortunate that there were no casualties, but several parts, including the front fender, wheel arch cladding, front fascia panel, windshield, front bumper, and side windows, need to be replaced. The price of the parts alone is estimated at $6,000, and the total cost, including labor, is estimated at $30,000.
The repair period is one year
Supply of parts is a problem
Tesla did not acknowledge any vehicle defects related to this accident and stated that it would not provide compensation. Consequently, the vehicle owner was forced to cover the repair costs through insurance. However, a more significant issue arose with the repair timeline. The owner was informed that the estimated repair period would be one year, primarily because it takes considerable time to supply all the necessary parts.
It is not known exactly what parts are being delayed or why. The industry speculates that it will be challenging to secure repair parts as Tesla is focusing all its efforts on producing the Cybertruck.
