Jack Black canceled his Tenacious D concert tour due to backlash over a controversial statement by his band member, Kyle Gass, which involved the recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

Jack Black presented a cake to celebrate Kyle Gass’s 64th birthday, and when asked to make a wish, Gass responded, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”

Black posted a follow-up statement, “I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.”

“After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding,” he added.

Tenacious D performed at the ICC Sydney Theatre in Australia the day after Trump’s attempted assassination. Black was surprised when Gass expressed his opinion, as his comment was not made during rehearsal.

Black plans to provide information on the remaining tour schedule and how fans can receive refunds at a later date. In addition to the now-canceled tour, Tenacious D planned to hold a concert in October to support Rock the Vote, a non-partisan, non-profit organization encouraging new young voters to register to vote.

On July 13, the U.S. Secret Service confirmed that Trump was grazed by a bullet in the ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The shooter was neutralized and later died. From the crowd, there was one casualty and two severe injuries.
