2NE1 is Back! Legendary Girl Group Reunites After 8 Long Years

tvreport Views

2NE1 is staging a complete comeback after an eight-year hiatus since its disbandment. Fans eagerly show their support and anticipation for the group’s return, emphasizing the emotional challenges the members faced during its breakup.

Yang Hyun Suk, the head producer of YG Entertainment, announced on Monday that the girl group 2NE1 will reunite. He revealed the news through an official blog post.

2NE1 will kick off its global tour with a concert in Seoul in early October, followed by performances in Osaka and Tokyo, Japan. Yang enthusiastically stated that the generation that grew up with 2NE1 and listened to its music now shares those memories. He added that they would work diligently with their staff to ensure successful performance.

2NE1 made its debut in 2009 with “Fire” and quickly ascended to fame with hit songs like “I Don’t Care,” “Clap Your Hands,” “Lonely,” “I Am the Best,” and “Come Back Home.” However, they surprised fans by announcing their disbandment in November 2016. In January of the following year, they bid farewell with their final release, “Goodbye.”

At that time, YG stated that 2NE1’s exclusive contract had expired in May 2016, leading to the group’s official disbandment after discussions with the remaining three members following Minzy’s departure. However, the members held a different perspective on the matter.

In a previous interview, CL sparked controversy by agreeing with Minzy’s statement that she found out about the group’s disbandment through the news, stating, “To be honest, I felt the same way.” Subsequently, Park Bom posted a mysterious message affirming this sentiment with “That’s right,” but deleted it shortly after, which fueled speculation about discord with YG.

Sandara Park openly discussed 2NE1’s disbandment during a web entertainment show appearance in 2023. She recalled her suspicion that the group would disband while working on “Missing You,” noting, “After we released ‘Falling In Love’ and ‘Do You Love Me,’ the company said, ‘2NE1 has failed.’ I wasn’t sure if it was said in jest or with regret, but afterward, when I entered the studio to record ‘Missing You,’ the atmosphere felt like a farewell. Park Bom and I spent hours crying together after the recording.”

Sandara also expressed sadness upon confirming that 2NE1 officially concluded its activities on November 26, 2016. She remarked, “Isn’t there still a possibility for future activities? Just because we disbanded doesn’t mean we cease to be 2NE1. I wish the disbandment could be marked more fluidly, like a wave.” She added, “I believe all the members share this sentiment.”

Amidst this, the complete comeback of 2NE1, coinciding with its 15th anniversary, has been officially confirmed, stirring high expectations among fans. With the members eagerly anticipating this moment, there is anticipation that they will devote considerable effort to this comeback.

Recently, YG has faced financial challenges attributed to the absence of BLACKPINK, a group that had long been a cornerstone of its revenue stream. Consequently, there is widespread curiosity about whether the reunited 2NE1 can emerge as YG’s saving grace.
