Major Design Changes Ahead
A Stronger Look Emerges
Volkswagen has introduced the third-generation Amarok, though it’s essentially a facelift of the original model. Despite being labeled as a new generation, the updates primarily involve design and technology tweaks rather than a complete overhaul.
The updated Amarok is set to hit the European and South American markets in early August 2024. Since its debut, the first-generation Amarok has been a strong performer in Europe, capturing a 29% market share in Germany in 2023.

The redesigned Amarok features a range of significant updates from its first-generation model. The new design introduces a refreshed multimedia system with an upgraded user interface, enhancing overall convenience. The powertrain options remain consistent with the previous model, offering a 2.0 TDI diesel turbo engine and a V6 3.0 TDI engine. The 2.0 TDI produces 180 horsepower, while the V6 3.0 TDI generates 258 horsepower. Buyers can choose between front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive configurations.
Externally, the new Amarok sports Volkswagen’s signature full-width light bar. The design includes a trapezoidal grille that seamlessly integrates with the headlamps, creating a cohesive and striking appearance. The grille features a grid-shaped pattern with angular lines to enhance its bold look. A chrome bar runs across the center of the grille, adding a touch of refinement.

Front End with Emphasized Angled Design
The ends were made sharply, similar to the headlamp box, and the fog lights were relocated to the side of the front bumper. The side of the bumper where the fog lights are located emphasizes the ㄱ shaped line. The lower bumper grille also takes up a large area of the front fascia, filling the front with design elements without any gaps.
The rear has not been revealed yet, but it is expected not to be much different from the existing model. Previously, the side steps and the protruding bumper on the side acted as rear steps to improve accessibility to the rear cargo area. The bumper is likely to feature chrome to add a design point.
New UI Enhances Convenience
Display Changes Expected
While detailed interior images haven’t been fully unveiled, the new Amarok is anticipated to showcase advanced features that challenge the traditional image of pickup trucks as purely utilitarian. The display appears significantly larger than the previous Amarok model, featuring the latest design updates to enhance readability and usability.
The enlarged display will present driving-related information, such as remaining range and controls for various functions, including volume. This suggests that the Amarok’s interior will offer improved convenience and a more modern driving experience.
