Parents Demand Big Payout After Son’s Scary Movie Nightmare Lands Him in Hospital

Alien: Romulus

A recent incident in China has drawn attention after an 8-year-old child was hospitalized due to health complications caused by fear after watching the movie Alien: Romulus.

According to WORLD OF BUZZ, the family took their young son to see the film at a Chinese cinema. The child experienced severe fear from the movie’s violent scenes and was subsequently admitted to the hospital.

Alien: Romulus is a horror film rated for viewers aged 16 and older. In the United States, it holds an R rating, requiring a parent or guardian to accompany viewers under 17. However, in China, theaters typically do not enforce strict age restrictions, leaving it to parental discretion.

In response to this incident, the child’s parents argue that the cinema failed to provide a suitable viewing environment for children by screening the film. They are seeking not only a refund for their tickets but also compensation for the medical expenses incurred due to the child’s distress.

Local media outlets Guang Ming Daily and Sina report that cinemas in China typically do not impose age restrictions and leave such decisions to parents. In this case, the parents have criticized the theaters for showing films that may not be appropriate for younger audiences and have brought this issue to light.

Meanwhile, Alien: Romulus, the latest installment in the renowned Alien franchise, had a strong opening in South Korea. It drew over 95,000 viewers on its first day and topped the box office. This achievement marks the first time a horror film has reached the number-one spot since Exhuma in February of this year.
