KBO player Hwang Jae Gyun, currently with KT Wiz, has publicly addressed his divorce from T-ara member Ji Yeon. In a statement released on Saturday, he said, “First of all, I apologize for sharing this unfortunate news. Ji Yeon and I have decided to divorce after much consideration and a period of separation due to personality differences.”
Hwang Jae Gyun mentioned that they have already submitted a divorce mediation application to the Seoul Family Court and plan to finalize the divorce amicably through mediation.
He continued, “Although our relationship as a couple has ended, we will continue to support and encourage each other’s paths.” Hwang also expressed his regret, saying, “I sincerely apologize for disappointing our fans and kindly ask for restraint regarding unfounded speculation and reports,” before concluding his statement.
The couple married in 2022 but faced ongoing rumors about their relationship. In June, a sports commentator during a KNN radio broadcast in Busan claimed that Hwang Jae Gyun had divorced, creating a stir. In August, reports surfaced of him being seen at a bar in Gangnam, where he reportedly stayed until morning, further fueling the speculation about their marriage.
During Saturday’s first game of the 2024 KBO playoffs between KT Wiz and LG Twins, it was confirmed that the couple had submitted their divorce mediation application. Ji Yeon responded, “We have mutually agreed to proceed with the mediation process for our divorce. I ask for your understanding for not being able to address this earlier.”
Shortly after the game, Hwang Jae Gyun issued an official statement, ending the speculation and confirming their separation.
