Nissan’s Family Car SUV
Redesigned Version of Patrol Unveiled
What are the differences compared to the previous model?

Nissan

Full-size SUVs have long been family favorites, offering the space, comfort, and capability many look for in a vehicle. While American brands are typically associated with this category, Japanese automakers like Nissan have made a significant mark, especially in the U.S. market, where large vehicles are preferred. To compete, Japanese brands have adapted to the American consumer’s desire for size and power.

Nissan’s Patrol, a long-standing model in the full-size SUV segment, has a rich history that stretches over 70 years. Initially starting as a civilian version of a military vehicle, the Patrol has transformed into a versatile, rugged, and luxurious SUV. On September 4, Nissan revealed the redesigned 7th generation Patrol, highlighting the latest evolution of this iconic model.

The more angular design emphasizes the vehicle’s robustness

The exterior of the 7th generation Nissan Patrol retains much of its familiar design language, particularly in the front, where the overall layout feels more like a facelift of the previous model. However, Nissan has introduced several key updates to give the SUV a more modern and rugged appearance. The front now features sharper angles, enhancing its robust and aggressive look. A new “ㄷ”-shaped daytime running light (DRL) has been added, and the headlights have been lowered for a sleeker profile. The grille has been expanded, and the radar and chrome accents have been repositioned higher on the front fascia. The license plate has also been relocated to the lower part of the bumper, further cleaning up the design.

Moving to the sides, Nissan has made subtle yet effective changes. The quarter glass now extends all the way to the rear window, giving the vehicle a more cohesive look, while the fender’s air duct has been redesigned from horizontal to vertical and is now placed on the door. The front headlamp design has also been applied to the rear, where the glass area has been expanded for better visibility and modern aesthetics. The rear tail lamps, echoing the front design, are now connected by a single light bar, adding a more futuristic touch. Finally, the rear bumper has been updated with a significantly larger skid plate area, reinforcing the Patrol’s rugged, off-road-ready vibe.

The interior design has been advanced and become more luxurious compared to its predecessor

A characteristic of Japanese vehicles is that their interior design is often behind the trend. So, if you look at the interiors of Japanese cars currently on sale and those of other brands, you will wonder if they were actually sold in the same era. There are still few cars with panoramic displays, and quite a few vehicles do not even have a central display area of more than 10 inches. Quite a few cars do not have ambient lights, which are now found even in subcompact and mini vehicles. In addition, if you look at the center fascia, door trim, and center console, they are far from luxurious.

On the other hand, the 7th generation Patrol features a fairly advanced interior design. It has a large-screen panoramic display that connects the instrument panel and the central display. Although the center fascia still has many physical buttons, it features a design that naturally connects to the center console. In addition, ambient light has been applied to the dashboard and door trim, and leather materials have been applied quite widely.

Unfortunately, the V8 engine will be discontinued
What are the specifications?

The 7th generation Nissan Patrol brings significant changes under the hood, most notably the discontinuation of the V8 engine in favor of more efficient V6 options. The new powertrain lineup includes a 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbocharged gasoline engine, delivering an impressive 425 horsepower, while the lower trims feature a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine producing 316 horsepower. Both engine variants are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, designed for smoother shifts and improved fuel efficiency. This combination promises to provide power and performance while meeting modern efficiency standards.

In addition to the powertrain upgrades, the 7th generation Patrol offers many premium features. Buyers can opt for wheels ranging from 18 to 22 inches, and the interior boasts a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 14.3-inch central display for a modern driving experience. Other luxurious amenities include a 12-speaker Klipsch premium sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, second-row captain’s chairs, and air suspension. The Patrol also provides Level 2 semi-autonomous driving functions for convenience and safety. While the model will be sold in the Middle East, it will be known as the Armada in North America, where only the 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine will be available, alongside an off-road-focused Pro-4X variant for adventure seekers.
