Acura RSX Revival: Could Honda’s Iconic Sports Car Be Making a Return?

newautopost Views

Honda Revives Classic Models
Now, News on the Acura RSX
What Will It Look Like?

Built for Backroads

Honda is revisiting its iconic sports cars by reintroducing models like the Integra and Prelude, now with electric and hybrid powertrains. These revived classics have sparked considerable interest due to their storied pasts, although not all feedback has been positive, with some aspects leaving fans wanting more.

Continuing with its strategy of reviving beloved models, there’s a buzz around Honda’s plans to expand its Acura brand to the Japanese market. This move could potentially bring back more Acura vehicles, previously popular in North America, to Honda’s home country. Details on which specific Acura models will make the transition and how they will be received remain a topic of keen interest.

RSX: Acura RSX Trademark Registered
Likely to Launch as a Two-Door Sports Car

According to Autoguide, Honda may revive Acura’s front-wheel-drive sports car model, the RSX. Honda has registered the trademarks RSX and RSX with the Japanese authorities.

The original Acura RSX was a badge-engineered version of the fourth-generation Honda Integra, a car sold only in the North American market. Although the current Acura Integra exists, there’s a reason people are cheering: the return of the two-door sports car.

Lack of Specific Information, But Plenty of Anticipation

Details about the sale regions and powertrain options for the potential revival of the Acura RSX remain under wraps, with only the vehicle’s trademark having been registered so far. Should the RSX make a comeback, it’s poised to appeal to consumers who find the Honda Civic Type R too pricey and those who were let down by the current Integra’s four-door design.

Despite its four-door setup, the Acura Integra Type S garnered significant acclaim by winning the 2023 North American Car of the Year award. This accolade has heightened expectations for a two-door model, suggesting that there could be strong market enthusiasm if Acura decides to expand its lineup with a more traditionally sporty configuration.

After Ending Production in 2006, the Acura RSX is Set for a Comeback

Meanwhile, the Acura RSX was discontinued in September 2006 without a successor. The final fourth-generation model went on sale in 2001. It was equipped with a 160-horsepower engine and was available with a five-speed or six-speed manual transmission.

Since the Acura brand and the Integra are still being produced as Civic-based vehicles, the Acura RSX will likely be launched as a standalone vehicle. It remains to be seen whether it will be launched only in the North American or Japanese markets.

Please bring back the RSX w/gasoline only engine. Great car and think it would be a success.
