Peugeot Unveils E-408 at the Paris Motor Show
12 EVs Launched So Far
Most Notable Model is Also The E-408
Peugeot has made waves at the Paris Motor Show with unveiling its newest electric vehicle, the E-408. Sporting a sleek design that some compare to the styling of a Lamborghini, the E-408 embodies the Peugeot brand’s signature feline look, inspired by the image of a roaring lion. The standout feature of this model is its fastback design, which gives it a distinct and aggressive profile.
With the highly anticipated Peugeot E-408 launch, the French automaker now boasts the most diverse electric vehicle lineup of any European carmaker, with 12 electric models, including nine passenger vehicles and three light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
A Roaring Design: Feline-Inspired Aesthetic
The Peugeot E-408 embraces the lion theme throughout its design. The front end features headlights resembling fierce, upward-slanting eyes, while the elements below—evoking fangs—highlight the brand’s bold styling. The fastback roofline, gently sloping toward the rear, mimics the powerful back of a lion in motion. The taillights, shaped like claws, enhance the car’s dynamic appearance.
Built on the EMP 2 platform, which is shared with the gasoline-powered Peugeot 408, the E-408 measures 4,687 mm (184.5 inches) in length, 1,848 mm (72.8 inches) in width, and 1,478 mm (58.2 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,787 mm (109.7 inches). Under the hood, it features a 201-horsepower electric motor paired with a 58.2 kWh NMC lithium-ion battery.
Impressive Range and Quick Charging Capabilities
Interior Tech and Comfort
The Peugeot E-408’s advantage is its long driving range due to its large-capacity battery, which can travel up to 453 km(281 miles) on a single charge based on WTLP. The AC charging speed is up to 11 kW, but DC charging can charge up to 120 kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes. You can also select three driving modes via the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.
Inside, the E-408 offers a standard 10-inch high-definition display, a six-speaker sound system, dual-zone climate control, heated seats, and a multifunction steering wheel. The vehicle is integrated with ChatGPT, enabling drivers to control various functions via voice commands. Below the central display, five customizable touch shortcuts, depending on user preferences, provide easy access to phone calls, music, and more.
Spacious and Versatile Interior
Thanks to its long wheelbase, the Peugeot E-408 boasts a spacious interior, with 183 mm (7.2 inches) of legroom in the rear. The seats are designed with comfort in mind, offering an optimal angle for rear passengers. The trunk provides 471 cargo space, which can expand to 1,545 liters with the 60/40 split-folding rear seats down. This configuration allows the car to carry items up to 1,890 mm (74.4 inches) in length.
The Peugeot E-408 starts at 43,900 euros (US$47,000), significantly more affordable than the supercars its design might evoke, like a Lamborghini. However, it faces stiff competition in the EV market. For example, the Tesla Model 3, which offers a slightly longer range of 513 km (319 miles), is priced around $4,370 less. Buyers could opt for the BMW iX2 for a bit more money, raising questions about how the E-408 will fare against these popular alternatives.
