Mazda Pickup Truck BT-50
New Model Unveiled in Australian Market
Bold Design Changes Implemented

Mazda

Mazda has introduced the refreshed version of its mid-sized pickup truck, the BT-50, to the Australian market. The updated model features a striking new exterior design, enhanced safety and convenience features, and a variety of accessories designed to improve its overall appeal.

The BT-50 name is derived from Mazda’s B-series truck lineage, with “50” denoting a payload capacity of 500 kg (1,102 pounds), placing it in the small to mid-sized pickup truck category. Initially launched in 2006 in Bangkok, the BT-50 has undergone several iterations, with the third generation debuting in 2020. This latest facelift marks a significant update after four years.

Bold Grille and New Design Elements

Mazda has leaned into its SUV design language for the new BT-50, creating a more refined yet rugged look. The front end has seen the most drastic changes, with air curtains wrapping around the trapezoidal grille and bumper, enhancing aerodynamics. The LED headlamps feature right-angled daytime running lights for a distinctive appearance.

The grille, now reshaped with curved lines for a softer, more modern aesthetic, contrasts with the bold internal pattern reinforcing the truck’s robust nature. Mazda’s large, prominent logo is centered on the grille, further emphasizing the brand’s identity.

New Color Options and Enhanced Tech Features

One standout addition for this update is the exclusive Red Earth Metallic color, a rich and intense red that adds a premium feel to the BT-50’s palette of seven available colors. Alongside exterior updates, the truck also features redesigned alloy wheels and vertical tail lamps, with a larger Mazda logo displayed on the rear.

Inside, a 9-inch infotainment system takes center stage, replacing the previous smaller unit. The physical air conditioning controls remain below the screen, and a volume control dial sits below that. The digital driver’s cluster has been upgraded from 4.2 to 7.0 inches, providing improved visibility and more detailed driving information.

Upgraded Interior and Driver Assistance

Mazda has refined the interior with more upscale materials for the door trim, center console, and dashboard. Certain trims now offer black leather, and the top-tier model includes black and terracotta Maztex synthetic suede leather seating. The BT-50 branding is embroidered on the front seat headrests, enhancing its premium feel.

Tech upgrades include wireless connectivity for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Driver assistance features have been improved, with the BT-50 now equipped with a new front stereo camera that doubles the field of view, enhancing safety and driving precision. The digital cluster provides information on tire pressure monitoring, steering angle, and driving mode for a more informed driving experience.

The facelifted Mazda BT-50, with its combination of style, functionality, and cutting-edge features, aims to remain competitive in the evolving pickup truck market, particularly in regions like Australia, where utility and comfort are both valued.
