Huawei, a latecomer in the electric vehicle (EV) market, is making waves with its strategic partnerships and the launch of its electric vehicle brand, Luxeed. In collaboration with Chery, the Luxeed brand unveiled the R7, its first coupe-type electric SUV, which quickly garnered significant market attention. Since its launch, the Luxeed R7 has seen a remarkable 30,000 orders in just 33 days, with over 6,000 orders placed within the first 24 hours and 20,000 within the first two weeks.
The R7 is part of Huawei’s broader strategy to challenge established players like Tesla, particularly in the highly competitive SUV segment. The R7 is positioned to compete directly with models like Tesla’s Model Y, offering a sophisticated design and advanced features.
HIMA’s first coupe SUV
Sharing family design language
The Luxeed R7 is the first coupe-style SUV developed by Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), following the Luxeed S7 sedan. The R7 incorporates the family design language shared with its sibling models, creating a cohesive aesthetic that is both modern and sporty. Its body dimensions—4,956 mm (195.1 inches) in length, 1,981 mm (78.0 inches) in width, and 1,634 mm (64.3 inches) in height—make it 206 mm (8.1 inches) longer than the Tesla Model Y, giving it a more substantial presence on the road. The design elements, including the sealed grille and headlight setup, are similar to those found on the Luxeed S7 sedan, ensuring a strong visual identity across the brand.

The interior features a 12.3-inch driver display, a 15.6-inch infotainment display, and wireless charging. The Pro model has a 15-speaker sound system, while others have a 17-speaker 000W sound system. In addition, an 8.2-liter refrigerator is installed in the center console.
The R7’s trunk space is equally impressive, with a capacity of 837L, enough to hold three 28-inch bags and one 20-inch bag with the seats up. When the seats are folded down, the cargo area expands to 2,130L, offering ample room for larger items. Additionally, the SUV features a 52L frunk (front trunk), a hallmark of electric vehicle design that maximizes storage space.
